MoZella Receives Glowing Review From CWG

May 17th, 2010

MoZella’s album Belle Isle received a glowing review from Chicks With Guns Magazine.  The independent music and culture magazine raved about the album and more specifically, the maturity and depth to MoZella’s songwriting.

“One thing that sets MoZella apart from her peers is the consistency and cohesiveness amongst her songs and her ability to tell a story within her album…the album seems to mature as it progresses and MoZella’s songs become imperceptibly more empowering.”

The full lineup includes MoZella, Kat DeLuna, Shontelle, Cara Salimando, Lenka, and Kelli Pyle.  The event takes place in New York City on June 10th and the venue is currently TBD.  Tickets are $20 for general admission and $50 for VIP tickets.  You can purchase tickets at Eventbrite, so if you will be in New York in June, get out there and support this worthy cause.

MoZella On Music And Social Media

April 23, 2010

MoZella was recently interviewed by the kind folks at ploked.com to discuss the important role that social media plays in an artist’s career.  As she points out, especially over the past few years, it has become essential for artists to utilize social media platforms to have an open dialogue with fans.

MoZella does an excellent job staying connected with her fans through her Facebook, Twitter (twitter.com/mozellamusic) and You Tube pages.  Be sure to check out this great article for insight on how Web 2.0 is impacting how artists relate to their fans.

Last week, MoZella was in New York City to play a couple shows for some lucky East Coast fans.  Check out the video of her at The Living Room in NYC playing a cover of Weezer’s “Say It Aint So.”

MoZella Celebrates International Women’s Day In Style

March 18, 2010

MoZella thrilled the gathering fashion aficionados and women’s rights advocates at her in-store performance at the Los Angeles Diane Von Furstenberg event that was hosted in honor of International Women’s Day.   The event honored keynote speakers and Vital Voices ambassadors, Sally Field and Rebecca Lolosoli, who traveled from Kenya to discuss the women’s rights violations she has both witnessed and fought against in her home country.  Vital Voices is an organization that advocates women’s rights across the world and is active in over 130 different countries.

MoZella opened her set with an intimate, stripped-down version of her tear-jerking “Twilight Girls”, followed by energetic, acoustic renditions of “Manhattan”, “Thank You”, and “More Of You”.  Check out this article from Racked for a detailed account of the event.

MoZella’s “Manhattan” was recently included on a compilation put together by DvF in honor of International Women’s Day, called Proud To Be Woman.  All the proceeds from the album, which features Christina AguileraMary J. BligeEstelle, and many others, will benefit Vital Voices and the work they are doing across the world.  “Manhattan” is the highest downloaded single on the compilation album, which is now available on iTunes and in all DvF boutiques.

MoZella Delights Fans With Virtual Performance

February 16, 2010

Last Friday, MoZella caught up with her fans with an online performance (now streaming at USTREAM), featuring acoustic renditions of 12 songs off her albums ‘I Will’ and ‘Belle Isle’.  Sporting a festive, sparkling red beret, the blond songstress took song requests from fans ahead-of-time and performed the most requested tunes live from her bedroom.

While MoZella’s studio releases shine for their bright orchestral arrangements reminiscent of the height of Motown, this intimate, virtual performance truly showcases her talent and charm.

The Huffington Post Praises MoZella As One Of The Year’s Best

February 2, 2010

This week, music’s brightest stars showed up dressed to impress for the 52nd annual Grammy Awards.  Conforming to the typically exaggerated and overly harsh attitude that post-award show reviews often share, The Huffington Post has issued a brutal critique of the night’s celebration and performances.

Shining through their cynicism, however, is a glimmer of praise where the article hails ‘Belle Isle’ by MoZella as one of the year’s best albums.  Luke Crampton writes, “…my selections for the two best albums of the year were: ‘Love Travels’ by Angel Taylor and ‘Belle Isle’ by MoZella…What both albums have in common are: real talent, real craft, real performance, real emotion, real songwriting — real music.”

While we certainly can’t endorse such a vicious attack on the industry as a whole, we couldn’t agree more about the talent that MoZella showcases on this amazing release.

MoZella’s Magical Year

January 5, 2010

2009 was a spectacular year for MoZella.  Her album ‘Belle Isle‘ was released in October by Universal/Motown Records, on the strength of several high-profile film and TV placements and has since been included on several lists of the best albums of 2009, including www.pinkisthenewblog.com.

Most notably, “Magic (Oh Oh Oh)”, which was used in the infamous Verizon iDont Droid Does commercial, has been ranked amongst the top 10 best songs in commercials for 2009 by ButterBlog.  The website notes that the song sounds as if it was “plucked right from an Apple ad,” which is most likely the reason for the ad’s extremely effective (and unapologetic) parody of the aesthetic of Apple’s commercials that we have all come to recognize as the core of their marketing strategy.  The result: an Internet viral campaign resulting in over 1.5 million YouTube views in a mere 2 weeks!

RCRD LBL Hosts Exclusive Apache Beat Remix Download

October 30, 2009

“Who would have thought it – Apache Beat, just as at home in Fabric as they are on Native American reservations. Cubic Zirconia have turned "Your Powers Are Magic" into something of a totem pole for club kids and chieftains alike, huge, whomping bass bins stacked high to rally around, vocals chopped and screwed into strange mantras.”
